there is no need, my dear, to sequester yourself any longer.

the trees will carry your questions like they do their bark,

until the winds come or the pests or lack of water.

the ground will hold your doubts and confessions

among its fallen branches, its hidden rocks and holes,

as with the others who have traveled here.

there is no need, my dear, to delay deliverance

from this place. the sun will rise over the ridge even

when signs of life vanish and the corpuscles of every

departed creature have dusted the stars.

your measure of faith will move with you,

companion to the wonder you seek,

the higher ledge with clearer views of what’s ahead.

there is no need, my dear, to keep hidden your talent at mirage.

you can tell stories in a town that thrives in its commons

and that welcomes whomever might be you,

a painted lady, mystic with scepter and staff,

who reigns over the ground under her feet,

where her crown exposes her and her voice announces

in pure, plain tones, I am here with all the heroes and villains

who have battled each other to found this new domain,

this once in a lifetime certified brand.

there is no need, my dear, to fear the deadline.

until then plenty resides for your journey.

even loneliness and loss and sorrow hold out their hands

to remind you of what it means to breathe.

go forth, my dear, out of the forest, down to the desert,

or out toward the sea, where the sky drapes in all directions

and occupies the very vastness you seek.
